Casual mode is where the Czar shows mercy. Before you type a single letter, a share of the alphabet is already filled in for you — chosen, not at random, but by frequency: the letters that appear most often, and therefore the ones that unlock the most words. You also get ten hints, and the Czar has never once counted how many you used.
This is the right place to learn the craft. A cryptogram is not a guessing game; it is a reading exercise. The cipher scrambles which letters appear, but it cannot hide where they appear — word lengths, repeated letters, doubles and apostrophes all survive the encryption untouched. Those are the handholds. Casual mode simply hands you the first few for nothing.
What to do first
Look for the shortest words on the board. A one-letter word is A or I, with no third option. A three-letter word that repeats is very probably THE, which is the single most profitable guess in the game: it confirms T, H and E at a stroke, and those three letters are scattered through almost every other word in the quote. From there, the puzzle tends to unravel rather than yield.
When you are comfortable — and it happens faster than people expect — the expert puzzles take the free letters away. If you want the full method before you start, the Czar has written it down in the field manual.

Are these cryptograms good for beginners?
Yes — casual mode is designed for exactly that. Several letters are revealed before you begin, chosen by how common they are, and you have ten hints available. Nothing is timed and nothing is scored against you.
How many letters do I get for free?
Roughly a quarter of the distinct letters in the puzzle, weighted toward the common ones. Expert mode gives you none.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up, no account and no app. Every puzzle plays in the browser, and your streak is stored on your own device.
